Xi'an, May 16: Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show
In the evening we went to the Tang Dynasty Music and Dance Show, which is held at a dinner theater in Xi’an. This lavish event has the feel of a Las Vegas revue with Chinese themes and costumes. I later inquired about how much Tang Dynasty authenticity there was in the music, costumes and dances, and was assured that there is some. It does seem likely that they didn’t have the same lighting effects and sound systems in the Tang Dynasty. Anyway the show was colorful and fun. Those who want the best seats for the performance have to have dinner along with it. We didn’t do that (the food is reportedly poor), so we were seated further back. Despite that I was able to get some pictures. The last one shows a welcome for an Italian company coming to China.
