Yellowstone National Park: Geothermal Patterns
As the mineral-laden water from geysers and springs seeps and flows on the surface toward streams and rivers it nurtures a cornucopia of microorganisms which form colorful colonies in amazing patterns of color and form. Minerals also precipitate out of the water, forming crusts, dikes and dams which add to the overall effect.
On this page I am showing sixteen examples of such geothermal patterns. They are not identified by location, as they are mostly abstract vignettes rather than recognizable scenes.
